First-ever Taiwan Baseball5 Championship to open 13 October in Taipei City

A total of 12 teams will participate in the new urban five-on-five event, six of them in the youth (16-18 years) age bracket.

The XinZhoung Stadium in New Taipei City will host on 13 and 14 October the 2020 Taiwan Baseball5 Championship. Games are scheduled from 1 pm to 7 pm local time on both days.

A total of 12 teams will participate in the event, six of them in the youth (16-18 years) age bracket. Both the youth and the open group will play a single round-robin format.

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari called the event "historic" for Baseball5 on the island.

"Baseball5 is our newest discipline," commented Riccardo Fraccari. "It is the fast-paced, urban version of baseball/softball and it's been exploding in popularity around the world."

Fraccari referred to the island as "one of baseball's spiritual homes".

"I am particularly pleased to see Baseball5 being embraced here," added the WBSC President. "I was also pleased to see that the Chinese Professional Baseball League was the first professional championship to resume activity in the world."

The 2020 Taiwan Baseball5 Championship is due** to be streamed on GameTime.Sport following in the likes of the Mexican Prospects League and the 2020 Cuban Serie Nacional de Beisbol
