First Olympic Playbook published for safe participation at Tokyo 2020 Games

A series of Olympic Playbooks -- which were created with input from the IOC, World Health Organization, Tokyo 2020 -- layout useful guidelines and protocols on how to attend the Games safely and successfully.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) welcomes the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) publication of the Tokyo 2020 Playbooks, which provide a centralised source of information for all stakeholders attending the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

These Playbooks, which were created with input from the IOC, World Health Organization, Tokyo 2020, regional and national Japanese authorities and independent experts, provide the WBSC and its Member Federations with useful guidelines on how to attend the Games safely and successfully.

Commenting on the publication of the first Playbook for International Federations (IFs) -- with others for Athletes and Officials, the Press and Broadcasters soon to follow -- WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari said:

“The Tokyo 2020 Playbooks provide us with an important resource in our preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games, and we have begun meticulously studying the details in the IF edition. We were pleased to contribute to these Playbooks with event experience input from the WBSC, its Member Federations and with the support of the Professional Leagues, and look forward to continue working with the IOC and Tokyo 2020 on the next version of the IF Playbook, due to be published in April, as well as the other editions being published in due course.

“Tokyo 2020 will be one of the key chapters in the history of international baseball and softball, and we are grateful to have been given the honour of being the first sporting event at Tokyo 2020 on 21 July 2021, with Olympic softball at the Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium to begin the global celebration of sport and solidarity.

“On behalf of the WBSC and global baseball-softball community, I want to express our deepest gratitude to the IOC, Tokyo 2020 organisers and the Japanese authorities for their tireless efforts, under the most challenging of circumstances, to ensure that the Olympic dreams of the athletes around the world can be realised this summer.”
