French Baseball5 Open to open 22 January in Montpellier

Twelve teams will compete in the 16 and over age bracket, while six will participate in the U-15 event.

The second edition of the French Baseball5 French Open is scheduled for 22-23 January at the Palais des Sports de Veyrassi in Montpellier, in the south-western part of the country.

The French Baseball Softball Federation (FFBS) announced that the tournament would develop through two different age brackets: 16-and-over and U-15.

Twelve teams split into two groups will participate in the 16+ age category. Arvernes, Barracufive, Camar'gators, Dragons de Villefontaine, Pirates and Prospect Team in group A; Alliga'Nimes, Devils, Fivecudas, Pol Baseball Haute-Vienne, the Rabbits de Clapiers-Jacou and the defending champions Squales in group B.

Six teams will compete in the U-15 category: Arvernes, Devils, Chatons Mercenaires, Renards de la Vallée, Muc BHB5 and the Rabbits de Clapiers-Jacou.

A total of 124 participants representing 16 teams competed in the first-ever French Baseball5 Open, staged at the National Institute of Sport, Expertise and Performance (INSEP) on the outskirts of Paris in January 2020. The second edition was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

France became the first European country to open a dedicated Baseball5 venue in 2018 and won the inaugural Baseball5 European Championship, qualifying for the first Baseball5 World Cup together with the runner up Lithuania.
