Melissa Mayeux is a young French athlete (born November 1998) who plays baseball; not women’s baseball, she has played in the men’s league and competed at the top level in Europe. In 2015, she represented France as the starting shortstop at the U-18 European Baseball Championship. The same year she became the first woman added to Major League Baseball (MLB) international registration list.
Melissa Mayeux wasn’t signed by an MLB club, but she will move to the USA anyway to play softball. She received a scholarship from Miami Dade College. She is projected to be the starting shortstop and hit in the middle of the order.
“She’s good,” Miami Dade College coach Gina DeAguero told The Miami Herald. “She’s athletic and is making adjustments… She has to get used to throwing the softball, it weighs differently.”
Mayeux confessed: “It’s a little bit hard…I’m lucky I have good coaches”.
She also confirmed that she hasn’t given up on her baseball dreams. After all, Miami Dade has a baseball team and she has met coach Danny Price.
Asked whether she may put on the baseball spikes for the Sharks, Mayeux said, “I don’t really want to go over there and say I want to play baseball. I’m just waiting. If he needs me, I’m here.”
