The latest GameTime Classic showcases another chapter of the most intense rivalry in international women’s softball: USA vs Japan. The top two nations in the world collided in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, in the final game of the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship 2016.
For the sixth consecutive time, Japan and USA faced off in the final of the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship. USA won in Saskatoon 2002, Beijing 2006 and Caracas 2010, but Japan claimed the title in Whitehorse 2012 and Haarlem 2014.
Yukari Hamamura took the ball for the two-time defending champions, while Ally Carda was the starter for USA.
The day before, USA beat Japan by a score of 4-3 and advanced to the World Championship Game. However, the Asian champions won the second semi-final against Canada, 11-1, to set up a rematch with USA. The final was played on 24 July 2016.
