GameTime Classics | Episode 30: Watch the 2013 Men’s Softball World Championship Final - New Zealand v Venezuela
To end an electric tournament, host New Zealand and Venezuela played For the Title of World Champion at Rosedale Park in Auckland.
The latest edition of the GameTime Classics series showcases another softball World Championship Game, with the exciting final of the 2013 Men’ Softball World Championship between New Zealand and Venezuela. The game was played on 10 March 2013 in front of a fully packed Rosedale Park in Auckland, New Zealand.
After 10 days of intense competition, New Zealand and Venezuela reached the final of the tournament. Both teams played the first semi-final of the event on 9 March, with a 2-0 win for the host nation. Jeremy Manley pitched a gem, with a complete-game, 15-strikeout shutout.
On the final day, Venezuela beat Australia 2-0 and advanced to the final. Erick Urbaneja and Ramon Jones combined to blank Australia and take their team to the final. It was the first World Championship Game in softball history for Venezuela, while New Zealand would play in their eighth consecutive final.
Manley took the ball for the Black Sox, while Erick Alvarez went into the circle for the South American team.
