Pakistan Baseball Federation organized the first ever Baseball5™ game in the country, in a historic step forward to introduce and promote the new WBSC urban baseball/softball discipline in Pakistan.

The game was held at Bahria Town Lahore, the second most populous city in the country, on 5 February. Pakistan Green defeated Pakistan Red, 8-6, after a five-innings match.

Before the game the rules of Baseball5 were introduced to the players. The two teams were composed of eight players each, from Govt. High School Maraka, Beaconshouse School Bahria, Allied School Depalpur and National Baseball Academy U15.

Baseball5 has spread all over the world in a very short period of time, with more than 40 countries being introduced to the new urban discipline in less than one year from the launch. This new sport discipline requires fewer athletes, virtually no equipment, and with no need of a dedicated venue it can be adapted to endless situations.

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari commented: “I congratulate the Baseball Federation of Pakistan for embracing and promoting Baseball5 in their country. Tahore is one of most densely populated areas of Pakistan and Baseball5 is conceived indeed for boosting baseball/softball development in those places.”

Syed Fakhar Ali Shah, President of the Pakistan Federation Baseball participated himself in the last inning of the game and commented: “The event becomes cheerful, exciting and full of thrill. The participants enjoy a lot by playing this new game.”
