Great Britain names 2020 women’s softball rosters to honour chosen players

The British women's softball national teams have cancelled all activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic

The British Softball Federation named their senior, U-22 and U-15 women’s softball national team rosters for 2020 season, even when none of these teams will be in tournament action this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Great Britain’s coaches decided to publish the rosters in order to honour the players chosen for each team.

Following the postponement of the 2021 Women's Softball World Cup to 2023 and the 2021 WBSC Men's Softball World Cup to a date to be determined, the European Softball Federation (ESF) announced a decision to postpone both the Women's and the Men's European Softball Championships to 2021. In addition, WBSC also postponed the inaugural edition of the WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup to 2023.

In 2019, the world No. 13 Great Britain was only one game away from qualifying for the Olympic Games. They went undefeated until the last game of the WBSC Softball Europe/Africa Qualifier, where they faced Italy in a winner-takes-all game. Italy shutout Great Britain, 5-0, and clinched the Tokyo 2020 qualifying berth. Earlier in the year, Great Britain earned a bronze medal in the European Championship. Nine players of the 2019 senior national team were returning for this year.

The Great Britain Women's Fastpitch Programme held a trial in Uxbridge, near London, on 1 March, open to all athletes wishing to trial for the Senior, Under-22, Under-18 and Under-15 Women's National Teams. Those unable to attend the trial were required to submit video evidence and testing protocols -- athletic, defensive and offensive -- as well as game footage.
