Germany: Heidenheim Heidekoepfe win National Baseball Championship

They swept the Bonn Capitals (12-3, 3-0 and 8-3) in the best-of five final series of the Ben's Baseball 'BundesLiga'.

The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe swept the Bonn Capitals, 12-3, 3-0 and 8-3, in the championship series of the German Baseball Bundesliga. It's the fifth National Title in the club's history and second in a row. It's also the fourth consecutive German Baseball Series played between Heidenheim and Bonn.

Mike Bolsenbroek and Lars Huijer, two pitchers who've played internationally for the Netherlands, dominated Bonn's lineup. They combined for the three wins and 23 strikeouts. Bolsenbroek was named the series MVP, while Huijer earned best pitcher's honours. Their teammate Lennart Weller was named the best hitter.

The 16-team Ben's Baseball Bundesliga 2020 started later than usual, opening on the second weekend of August. The regular season was shortened to seven weeks amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe eliminated Buchbinder Legionaere in the semifinals, played in Regensburg, while the Bonn Capitals knocked out the Paderborn Untouchables.
