Host China kicks off U-15 Asia Baseball Championship with victory over Pakistan

Asian superpowers Chinese Taipei and Japan both threw no-hitters in their openers against respective opponents Hong Kong and Philippines, while Korea allowed only one hit in a 27-0 victory over Indonesia.


SHENZHEN, China — The Chinese U-15 Youth National Team topped counterparts Pakistan, 5-2, to officially open the 2019 BFA U-15 Asia Baseball Championship — a WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2020 qualifier — which is being played from 19-25 August.

Asian superpowers Chinese Taipei and Japan both threw no-hitters in their openers against respective opponents Hong Kong and Philippines, while Korea allowed only one hit in a 27-0 victory over Indonesia.

In a sign of international friendship and sport, players from Japan and Korea, and players from Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong joined together for a symbolic photo.

The Asian champion and runner-up will qualify into the 12-team WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup® 2020, where European champion Germany and runner-up Italy have already qualified.
