Italian Baseball Softball Federation re-elects President Andrea Marcon, pitcher Alessandro Maestri to serve on board

A former NPB starting pitcher, Maestri, will sit on the FIBS Board of Directors as an athletes representatives, together with Daniela Castellani, who represented Italy internationally over 200 times.

Former international softball umpire Andrea Marcon was elected to serve a second term as president of the Italian Baseball Softball Federation (FIBS, Federazione Italiana Baseball Softball) at the FIBS General Assembly held in Florence on Saturday, 7 November.

Marcon received 58.5 of the votes and prevailed over celebrity journalist and anchorman Massimo De Luca.

Alessandro Maestri, one of the top pitchers in the history of Italian baseball, was elected to the Board of Directors together with Daniela Castellani, the former captain of the Italian Women's Softball National Team.

Maestri, born 1985, played baseball professionally on four continents. He worked his way up to Triple-A in Major League Baseball (MLB) within the Chicago Cubs organization, played in the Mexican League for Veracruz, spent four seasons with the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) Orix Buffaloes, one season with the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) Hanwha Eagles and he starred for Brisbane and Sydney in the Australian Baseball League (ABL). He also played for San Marino and Rimini in the Italian Baseball League (IBL).

The nine-member Board also includes Roberta Soldi, Barbara Zuelli, Marco Mannucci, Aldo Peronaci, Barbara Menoni, Luigi Cerchio, Gigi Mignola, Alessandro Cappuccini (the coaches representative; a former IBL pitcher and umpire) and Alberto Rigotto (the chairmen of the Auditing Commission). Giampiero Curti will serve as the Secretary General.

The FIBS Board of Directors will name two Vice Presidents in its first meeting.
