Italian Erika Piancastelli named NCAA Southland Conference player of the year

Italian Erika Piancastelli became part of an elite group among Southland Conference athletes in all sports when she was named the Southland Conference Player of the Year for the fourth straight year.

Italian Erika Piancastelli became part of an elite group among Southland Conference athletes in all sports when she was named the Southland Conference Player of the Year for the fourth straight year. Piancastelli was also named the Hitter of the Year for the fourth consecutive year as well first team selection as a utility player.

She is only the third Southland Conference athlete to garner Player of the Year honors four consecutive times in any sport.

Piancastelli continued to write both the McNeese and Southland Conference record books this season, breaking five conference career records this season, giving her a combined (McNeese and SLC) total of 17 records to her name including 12 combined career records. This season she led the league in batting average (.493), slugging percent (1.188), on base percent (.650), home runs (12), doubles (10), walks (32), RBI (28), and runs scored (29) in conference games only. She was third in the SLC with 34 hits.

Piancastelli has played internationally with the Italian National Team in the WBSC Junior Women’s Softball World Championship 2015; and WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship 2016.
