MORTSEL, Belgium -- The Italian U-12 National Team beat counterparts Czech Republic, 6-0, in the final to claim the 2021 U-12 European Baseball Championship. Both Italy and the Czech Republic qualified for the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup.
The continental title is Italy's fourth in a row in the respective youth category.
Italy scored all the runs in the top of the seventh, thriving on the walks by reliever Petr Fejt. Michele Dal Pozzo went 6.2 innings and earned the win.
Italy and the Czech Republic had both qualified for the medal round out of group A. The Czechs defeated Italy, 7-3, in group play.
The Czech Republic beat the Netherlands, 8-4, in the semifinal, heading undefeated to the European Championship game.
Italy beat Germany, 19-11, in their semifinal.
Germany won the third-place game, a 28-14 slugfest, against the Netherlands.
