Jiangsu wins baseball, softball gold medals at 14th China National Games

The baseball team defeated Tianjin, 3-1, in the gold medal game, while the softball squad shut out Sichuan, 7-0.

Jiangsu dominated the baseball and softball competitions at the 14th China National Games, the country’s top multisport event held every four years. In baseball, Jiangsu topped Tianjin, 3-1 in the gold medal game, while in softball, the national champions defeated Sichuan, 7-0.

Both competitions were held at Xi’an Physical Education University.

A young Jiangsu baseball team went undefeated to win the gold medal at the baseball event, after having won the bronze in the last two editions of the China National Games. This time, they defeated defending gold medallists Tianjin.

In softball, Jiangsu conquered their third consecutive gold medal. The champions rallied for five runs in the first inning, while Jiangsu’s slugger Liu Yanmin hit a home run in the fourth to clinch the title. 

China is ranked No. 20 in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings and No. 7 in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings.
