Junior Pan Am Games: baseball, softball events down to final 4 teams

WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup participants USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Peru will battle for gold in the softball event. Cuba, Dominican Republic, Colombia and Venezuela advanced to the semi-finals in the baseball competition.

The baseball and softball events at the inaugural Junior Pan Am Games Cali 2021 have closed the group stage and confirmed the four teams to battle for the gold medal in each sport. Both Gold Medal Games will be played on Thursday, 2 December, in Barranquilla.

At Edgardo Schemel softball stadium, No. 2 USA, No. 4 Mexico, No. 5 Puerto Rico and No. 30 Peru, all of them participants of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup to be played next week, advanced to the Super Round and will battle for a spot in the gold medal game.

USA and Mexico moved to the second round undefeated, as winners of group A and B respectively, and will comence the second phase with a 1-0 record. Puerto Rico and Peru advanced as second place, carrying out a 0-1 record from the group stage.

The top two teams in the Super Round Standings will play for the gold medal on Thursday at 7 p.m. (all local times), with the other two teams playing for the bronze at 4 p.m.

On the other hand, Edgar Renteria Stadium saw the U-23 National Baseball Teams of Dominican Republic and Cuba win their groups, advancing to the semi-finals to be played tomorrow, 1 December. The Dominican squad will face world champions Venezuela, while Cuba will take on Colombia, in a rematch of the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup Bronze Medal Game, played this past 2 October in Hermosillo, Mexico.

Semifinals losers will face off in the bronze medal game on Thursday, at 4:30 p.m., while the winners will play for gold at 9:30 p.m.
