Justin Morneau will lead Canada at WBSC Premier12

The former American League MVP will come off retirement to help his Country chase a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Canada will compete in group C and will face Cuba, Australia and the hosts Korea

Baseball Canada announced the 28-man roster that will compete in the WBSC Premier12. Canada will be managed once again by Ernie Whitt, a former MLB catcher who has been at the helm of the Canadian National Team since 1999.

“It is truly an honour to be asked to manage this team, so I’m thankful for the opportunity to once again represent Canada,” said Whitt. “Our staff is very pleased with the roster we’ve been able to put together, and we’re looking forward to fielding a competitive team at Premier12.”

Canada’s roster includes 14 players who were on the team that won a silver medal at the Pan Am Games last Summer and 11 players with MLB experience.

The other former Big Leaguers are Michael Saunders, an American League All-Star in 2016, Phillippe Aumont, Chris Leroux, Adam Loewen, Scott Mathieson, Dustin Molleken, Dalton Pompey, Scott Richmond, Rene Tosoni and Rob Zastryzny.

The coaching staff includes former National League MVP Larry Walker, Denis Boucher, Tim Leiper and Greg Hamilton.

Canada will compete in group C and will face the hosts Korea, Cuba and Australia at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul
