Men's softball: Julio Gamarci steps down as Argentina National Team head coach

Gamarci steered Argentina to their three WBSC World Titles, one at senior level and two in the junior category.

The Argentina Softball Confederation (CAS) officially announced that Julio Gamarci has stepped down as the country's Men's National Softball Team head coach. Gamarci led Argentina to the world championship in Prague 2019, as well as back-to-back world titles in the youth category in Parana 2012 and Whitehorse 2014 in his 14 years involved with the National Team program, being one of the main responsible for Argentina's men's softball meteoric rise.

Gamarci coached Argentina in six WBSC World Cups, including two Junior Men's Softball World Championships (then replaced and rebranded as U-18 Men's Softball World Cup) and four senior events.

In the youth competition, he posted a 20-1 win-loss record, for a .952 winning percentage. On the other hand, he collected 28 wins against 9 losses in four Men's Softball World Cups, for a .757 average. He led Argentina to the World Title in Prague 2019, a fourth place in Whitehorse 2017 and Auckland 2022; and an eighth position in Saskatoon 2015. Combining the six World Cups, Gamarci has a .828 winning percentage (48-10)

Under his helm, Argentina also claimed two Pan American Games medals, a bronze in Toronto 2015 and a gold in Lima 2019. He also led Argentina to its only Pan American Championship title so far, in 2022.

Counting all 12 official international competitions with Gamarci as head coach, Argentina won six titles, two runners-up, and a third place. The country's winning percentage in official matches (including World Cups, Pan American Games, Pan American Championships and South American Championships) is .821, with 92 wins and 20 losses.

Argentina announced that José Guerrinieri, a member of Gamarci's staff, will take the managerial role of the National Team. The South American team, which is ranked No. 4 in the WBSC/KONAMI Men's Softball World Ranking, will play the Pan American Championship in April, a qualifier for the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup, which will open later this year with the group stage.

In November 2022, Gamarci was the guest of WBSC's Spanish-language podcast The Global Game ahead of the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup in Auckland, New Zealand.
