Mexico beats Czech Republic, wins international softball tournament in Spain

World No. 4 Mexico grabbed the title at the four-team Women’s International Softball Tournament, played in Valencia, Spain.

World No. 4 Mexico defeated No. 13 Czech Republic in the final of the Women’s International Softball Tournament, a WBSC-sanctioned event held in Valencia, Spain. The tournament ran from 17-20 November at the local municipal baseball and softball field. Host/No.19 Spain and No. 23 Germany completed the lineup of teams.

The Mexican squad, with a mix of Olympians and junior players that are expected to participate in the upcoming WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup in Peru, defeated Czech Republic, 6-0, in the decisive match of the tournament.

An RBI-double off the bat of Olympian Sierra Hyland to left field in the fourth inning gave Mexico the lead in the game. One inning latter, Yanina Treviño added one more with an RBI single to make it 2-0.  Finally, a four-run sixth inning, powered by a 3-run inside the park homer by Tokyo 2020 Olympian Tatyana Forbes -- who finished the tournament with an .800 batting average -- put the game on ice for Mexico, giving the Americas nation a decisive lead.
