Miguel Borroto will manage Cuba in WBSC Premier12

The veteran coach made Camaguey competitive again in Cuba’s Serie Nacional, after spending 12 seasons abroad. He believes that baseball in the island needs to focus on a different way to manage the bullpen

Miguel Borroto will manage Cuba at the WBSC Premier12. He will replace Rey Vicente Anglada.

Miguel Borroto was born in 1955 and became the manager of the Toros de Camaguey in Cuba’s Serie Nacional in the early 1980s. He finished four times in second place and recorded over 600 wins. He then coached overseas. He was in 2006 and 2007 in Italy coaching Livorno and later he managed the Campeche Piratas in the Mexican Baseball League (Liga Mexicana de Beisbol).

Borroto returned to Cuba for the 2018-2019 season after twelve seasons abroad and was back at the helm of the Toros. Camaguey is now back in contention.

“Cuba has always developed a huge number of talented players,” said Borroto to OnCuba News. “I believe we need to work hard to help them become the next stars. I also think our baseball lacks something, in particular as far as managing the bullpen. The National Team manager won’t be able to address this issue if something doesn’t change during our Serie Nacional.”
