Today, Major League Baseball starts the 2012 MLB Pitching and Hitting Mini Camp in Haarlem, Netherlands. 27 young players (12 pitchers and 15 hitters) were selected to attend the Mini Camp during the MLB Academy tryouts in early May.

Players will be training each day under the guidance of former MLB All Stars Bruce Hurst and Wally Joyner. Strength and conditioning specialist Jeff Krushell rounds out the coaching staff which will run a training program focussed heavily on instruction.

“This week allows us to really focus on teaching the basics to a promising young group of players,” said MLB coach Bruce Hurst. “It’s a great opportunity for these kids to receive a lot of good-quality, individual instruction and improve as pitchers and hitters.”

This is the second edition of the MLB’s Mini Camp project, which has expanded to include hitters this year. The camp runs through June 22 at the Kinheim Baseball Club.
