The new Edgar Renteria National Baseball Stadium in Barranquilla, Colombia, will be inaugurated today (Thursday, 31 May) with a WBSC-sanctioned event.

Media and sport’s officials are calling Colombia’s new 12,000 seat national baseball stadium “a hit for local baseball” and the best baseball facility in South America. The new baseball stadium is also being called “The Jewel” of the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games 2018.

The recently completed venue, named after the Colombian baseball big leaguer, will host at 6 pm local time (midnight CEST) the men’s national baseball teams of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

The game is the opener of a four-team international tournament, which will impact WBSC Baseball World Rankings.

Host Colombia and South American rival Venezuela will meet in their first contest of the event.

After round-robin play, the top two nations will meet in the Final at 4 pm local time on Sunday, 3 June.
