NPB dedicated to driving more children to baseball in Japan

Promotional material reached as many as 43,000 schools nationwide. The NPB Chibiko Baseball Tournament will involve four and five-year-old kids on 26 February.

Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) is showing increasing commitment to grassroots and youth baseball development.

In the late months of 2021, NPB published a textbook for playing baseball safely with young children and distributed it to 20,000 schools in 36 prefectures. The publication reached 4,000 high schools and several kindergartens, nursery schools and primary schools.

This action combines with a 2019 initiative dedicated to schools and Universities. NPB estimates that promotional material has reached approximately 43,000 schools.

The first 2022 initiative is scheduled for Saturday, 26 February, in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Tokyo Area. NPB will organize the Chibiko Baseball Tournament Bangun Cup.

Four and five-year-old kids will experience a modified version of tee-ball. The aim is to get children acquainted with baseball by enjoying the basics of the games at an early age.
