TAICHUNG, Taiwan  —  Heading into the final week of the Asia Winter Baseball (AWB), and as the playoff race heats up, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has advanced from 3rd-place a week ago in the standings to 2nd-place, using a 6-game winning streak to narrow the game between first-place NPB West to only 2.5 games.

It has been hard to move closer to NPB West in the 3-week regular season, as the Nippon Professional Baseball
“West” players are 11-1 overall.

The Chinese Taipei National Training Team is in 3rd-place, with a 5-3 record.

After occupying 2nd-place last week, NPB East has since fallen to 4th-place.

Europe United is 2-9 and in 5th-place, but has proven to be able to compete in the international pro league. The collection of top European players has improved upon the number of games they won from last year (1).

The Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) representatives have not recorded a win since opening day, and are in last-place with a 1-10 record.

The top four teams of the regular season will head to the playoffs for the AWB title.

The 3-day finals of AWB 2016 will start on 16 December — beginning with the contest for 5th-place.

Games of the WBSC-sanctioned international league, which is operated by CPBL, have been featured/broadcast by FOX Sports Taiwan. All playoff games will be shown live at CPBLTV.com
