Peace Hospice in Chicago donated baseball gear to Nigeria

Ronke Champion-Adeyemi of Peace Hospice & Palliative Care Chicago (Illinois) in the United States, has donated new baseballequipment to the Nigerian Baseball and Softball Association, NBSA). The equipment includes balls, bats, gloves, helmet, catchers’ mitt and sets of catchers’ equipment, all enough to strengthen 4 baseball teams.

The equipment includes balls, bats, gloves, helmet, catchers’ mitt and sets of catchers’ equipment, all enough to strengthen 4 baseball teams.

Ronke, who is the CEO/President of Peace Hospice, said instruction has been given to the vendor of the equipment to ship it directly to the Secretary General of the NBSA in Abuja, Nigeria. According to her, the assistance is focused on essentials that can start baseball teams, strengthen old teams and thus make them strong for competitions within Nigeria and outside.
She reiterated that her group of experienced volunteer baseball coaches from the United States will arrive to Nigeria to begin series of skills impartation on Nigerian coaches and players through clinics and courses. She said the idea of her group is to raise first-class Nigerian teams that will be
the envy of the whole world. Ronke‘s son Toby is a player in the independent Frontier League.The Secretary General of NBSA, Mr Laniyan, confirmed that his federation is truly developing and working on a program to promote and develop baseball with assistance coming from Ronke Champion’s group.

He explained further that the first leg of this initiative has been scheduled to kick-off in the month of June, 2012 with some programs in AbujaLagos, Ilorin and Yenogua. Mr Laniyan said the eyes of Nigeria are on the Little League World Series, IBAF 12and Under World CupAll African Games and IBF 15 and Under World Cup.
