Peru and Brazil have the top U-15 girl's softball teams in South America

Teams from five countries participated in an international softball tournament in Ecuador.

Mexico’s U-15 National Girls Softball Team defeated Peru in the final of the U-15 South American Softball Championship, played in Manta, Ecuador, to win the Antonio Morales Cup.

But Peru defeated Brazil in the semifinal to clinch the South American title as the region’s top-ranked nation in the final standings. Mexico, a guest nation in the regional competition, wasn't considered in final standings of the South American Championship.

Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador Blue, Ecuador Yellow, Mexico (guest) and Peru played a single round-robin with the top four teams advancing to a page playoffs. Peru went undefeated in the round-robin, followed by Mexico, Brazil and Colombia. The two Ecuadorian teams were knocked out of medal contention, and finished in fifth and sixth place.

During the first playoff day, Mexico advanced to the final defeating Peru, 3-1, and Brazil topped Colombia, 10-5. 

With guest Mexico in the final, the second semifinal between Peru and Brazil served as the South American Championship final. And Peru retained the title with a 7-1 win over the Brazilians. Colombia grabbed the bronze medal.

The last game in Manta was a close one, with Mexico scoring the lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on a fielding error by the Peruvian defense.
