Young pros fill Nicaragua's roster for U-23 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier

Manager Sandor Guido will count on players like pitcher Dilmer Mejia, infielder Jesus Lopez, outfielder Ismael Munguia, who all competed at the Class A Minor League Baseball level.

Nicaragua will host one of the two groups of the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier, and National Team manager Sandor Guido loaded a roster filled with players with professional experience.

Pitcher Dilmer Mejia, infielder Jesus Lopez, outfielder Ismael Munguia (pictured above) spent the 2019 season at the Class A level in Minor League Baseball. Catcher Rodolfo Bone and second baseman Aldo Espinoza also spent their last season in the Minor Leagues.

Ranked 15th in the world, Nicaragua will host Group B and have to battle No. 9 Venezuela, No. 10 Dominican Republic, No. 22 Brazil, No. 43 Peru and No. 65 El Salvador. The top three teams in the Opening Round will advance to the Super Round.
