Europe: Opening Day of Poland's top baseball league set for 5 July

The EkstraLiga is Poland's top-level of baseball and features six teams. Kutno, located in central Poland, are the defending champions.

The EkstraLiga Baseball, the elite competition for the sport in Poland, is aiming to start the 2020 season on Sunday, 5 July. Poland is currently sitting at 38th in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings and 15th at the European level.

Across Europe, baseball and softball leagues have opened in places like Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania and Switzerland. In addition to Poland, Belgium and Italy are among European nations set to open over the next few weeks.

The EkstraLiga is overseen by the Polish Baseball and Softball Federation (PZBis).

The league was founded in 1984 and consists of six teams:

Barons Wrocław
Centaury Warszawa
Dęby Osielsko
Gepardy Żory
Stal BiS Kutno
Silesia Rybnik

Stal BiS Kutno won the 2019 title.
