Puerto Rican Baseball Federation cancels Double A League season

"Although difficult, it's the right decision," said federation president José Quiles Rosas. "It takes into account the health and safety of all the members of all our franchises."

The Board of Directors of the Baseball Federation of Puerto Rico (FBAPR, Federación de Béisbol Aficionado de Puerto Rico) unanimously decided not to resume the 81st season of the Superior Double-A league. The Board also cancelled the Youth Double-A league and the Women's league.

"Four months into the COVID-19 emergency, we continue to experience great uncertainty," said FBAPR President José Quiles Rosas. "Although difficult, it's the right decision because it takes into account the health and safety of all the members of all our franchises. Multiple alternatives were considered. "

The Double-A league is the second level of competition on the island below the professional Winter League (Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente). It involves over 2,000 players and takes baseball to most of the municipalities of Puerto Rico.

"I assure you we will return strengthened and full of enthusiasm in 2021," said Rosas on a final note. "Baseball will remain the King of Sports on our Isla del Encanto."
