Puerto Rico announce roster for WBSC Americas U-12 Baseball World Cup Qualifier

"We included kids who can cover multiple positions," commented manager Purito Rivera after evaluating 170 prospects.

The Baseball Federation of Puerto Rico announced the 18-player roster that will compete in the WBSC Americas U-12 Baseball World Cup Qualifier.

Manager Hector Purito Rivera evaluated over 170 players during the selection process.

"We put together a roster of kids who can cover multiple positions," commented Rivera. "You need to have utility players, if you are trying to have success in this age bracket."

Rivera's staff includes coaches Miguel Rodríguez, Javier Hernández, Kyle Higginbotham and Edville Feliberty. The latter led Maceteros de Vega Alta to win the inaugural U-12 National Championship.

The WBSC Americas U-12 Baseball World Cup Qualifier opens on Friday, 19 May, and will run through 28 May. The tournament will be available on the WBSC OTT Channel GameTime and the WBSC Americas YouTube channel.

Four teams will qualify for the VII WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup from 28 July to 6 August in Tainan, Taiwan.

World No. 11 Puerto Rico will compete with No. 2 and defending U-12 world champions USA, the hosts and No. 3 Mexico, No. 6 Venezuela, No. 7 Cuba, No. 10 Dominican Republic, No. 14 Panama, No. 15 Colombia and No. 24 Brazil.
