Aleshia Ocasio, Xeana Dung and Karla Claudio pitched the second consecutive perfect game of the tournament for Puerto Rico, in a 13-0 win over Bahamas in four innings of play. Peru claimed today a historic win against Dominican Republic, 6-1

Aleshia Ocasio, Xeana Dung and Karla Claudio pitched the second consecutive perfect game of the tournament for Puerto Rico, in a 13-0 win over Bahamas in four innings of play. Quiana Diaz and Alyssa Rivera led the offensive with a total of 4 hits, 6 runs and 3 RBI.

Ocasio started the game for Puerto Rico and used 29 throws to retire the first six hitters from Bahamas, including 5 strikeouts. In the third inning Dung struck out the side with only 11 pitches, while Claudio struck out one of the three hitters she faced to close the game in the fourth.

After two games, the Puerto Rican pitching staff has not allowed a runner to reach base in the tournament. In nine innings the pitching staff has struck out 20 of the 27 opponents they faced.

Puerto Rico scored the first two runs of the game in the first episode. Diaz, who had bunted for single to lead off the game, scored on a passed ball, while Aleshia Ocasio was plated by Jena Cozza, on a grounder to second base. In the next two episodes, Puerto Rico scored four and six runs respectively and sealed the game.

In the top of the fourth Alyssa Rivera added one with a monster bomb to center field to make it 13-0.

Tomorrow Puerto Rico will take on Canada, in a duel of undefeated teams in Group A. Bahamas has the day off.

Peru earns historic win over Dominican Republic

Peru claimed today a historic win against Dominican Republic, 6-1, closing the third day of competition of the WBSC Softball Americas Qualifier. Meiber Cabrera went the distance allowing only 1 run and 6 hits, with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.

In the first inning, the Dominican starter Rosaury Perez struggled to find the strike zone, issuing three walks and a hit by pitch, allowing two runs to the South American team. Giovannah Webb singled-in Daniela Osaki, while Alessandra La Puente drew a bases-loaded walk to produce Peru’s second run. And two innings later Peru added one with an RBI double off the bat of clean up hitter Elizabeth Caffero.

In the fifth inning, Peru took advantage of three defensive errors and two hits to score three runs and double their difference.

The only run for Dominican Republic came in the bottom of the seventh inning, on a sacrifice fly by Danicely Hernandez to plate Perez.

Peru tomorrow will have the day off, while Dominican Republic will face Brazil at 7:30 p.m.
