Punjab University wins first Women Baseball Championship in Pakistan

The first ever Pakistan Inter-varsity Women Baseball Championship was held at Islamabad from June 24, 2012. The Punjab University emerged as the first champions after winning the final against Islamia University, Bahawalpur by a margin of 13-3.

The winning team also earned the honor as four of its members were declared best players. Aalia Awan (best pitcher), Zaiba Awan (best catcher), Mehwish (best third base) and captain Samia (best shortstop) earned the awards.

Speaking on the occasion chief guest Mr. Khawar Shah, who is also the secretary general Pakistan Federation Baseball congratulated the players for participating in the first ever episode of the Inter-varsity event. He said Pakistani women have a great future in the game of baseball. Mr. Khawar Shah also ensured that the federation would help the HEC team to compete in the World University Games, whenever, the event will be held. He also ensured to the HEC, all technicals and other helps from the federation, to raise a strong team.

Nine teams played in the first Inter-varsity Women Baseball Championship in Islamabad, Pakistan: Punjab University Women Baseball Team, Lahore College University for Women  Baseball  Team, FWO University Women Baseball Team, University Women Baseball Team, Sargodha University Women Baseball Team, Govt  College  University Fasilabad Women Baseball Team, Islamia University Bahawalpur Women Baseball Team, Karachi University Women Baseball Women Baseball Team, Abdul Wali University Mardan.
