Softball Asia outlines 2021 international calendar across the region

The continent's governing body began the work on an intense 2021 season schedule. WBSC Executive Director Michael Schmidt attended the meeting.

The Softball Asia Executive Committee held an online meeting on Tuesday, 1 December, covering decisions on events, hosts and other reports, such as stadium construction projects.

Softball Asia revealed an intense international 2021 calendar: with a Women's Softball Universities Asia Cup in Bangkok, Thailand; the U-23 Men's Softball Asia Cup, a qualifier for the WBSC U-23 Softball World Cup; the Baseball5 Asia Cup and Youth Asia Cup and the Men's Softball Asia Cup, a qualifier for the WBSC Softball World Cup 2022. The final dates and the remaining host locations will be announced at a later stage.

The city of Hangzhou, China, is ready to start construction for the new venue that will host the baseball event of the Asian Games 2022. The construction of the softball venue will follow.

Softball Asia will also strengthen the collaboration with the Japan Softball Association (JSA) to run a series of coaching webinars in March next year, that are intended as a follow-up to the course held in collaboration with the WBSC Coach Commission in Penang, Malaysia in January.

MIYAKE Yutake, the JSA President and the Chairman of the Softball Asia Coaching Committee, will coordinate the webinars. He will be assisted by three coaches.

WBSC Executive Director Michael SCHMIDT attended the meeting and updated the Softball Asia Executive Committee on the organizational restructuring of the world governing body, that includes the educational tools available through the WBSC Academy platform, the establishment of the WBSC Integrity Unit and the National Federation survey aimed at collecting and sharing data and information.
