Softball Canada to host tryouts in August for 2021 junior women’s national team

Canada will re-do the athlete-selection process for the U-18 women’s softball national team after the postponement of the World Cup to 2021.

Softball Canada will hold a series of tryouts from August 17-21 to identify junior women’s athletes across the country. The top players will be selected to participate in the rescheduled WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup next year, as well as a possible U-17 WBSC Americas Qualifier in 2021.

Each tryout will include a technical skills component and fitness assessment component. Softball games will not be played during this component of the identification process. The tryouts will be held in the following dates and locations:

  • August 17-18 - Brampton, Ont.
  • August 19 - Saskatoon, Sask.
  • August 20-21 - Surrey, B.C.

Canada, third in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings, clinched their first-ever medal at women’s youth level at the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup in Irvine, California, in 2019.
