Son of tennis legends, Jaden Agassi a baseball star in the making

The son of Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf is a third baseman and right-handed pitcher with raw power who has committed to play for the University of Southern California.

His mum and dad combined for 30 Grand Slam singles titles, but Jaden Agassi never got into tennis. The son of Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf wants to be a baseball player.

“I love baseball,” commented Jaden. “I love the teammates, surviving and fighting with your brothers. Every game comes with a new set of challenges, and I really love figuring those out.”

Jaden was born on 26 October 2001. He is a 6-foot-3 (1.91 metres) and 212-pound (96 kilograms) third baseman and a right-handed pitcher.

According to the scouting service platform Perfectgame.org, Agassi can "easily hit the low 90’s on the mound, has a very high ceiling with the bat and keeps making jumps every time we see him.”

Brad Maloff, the coach who recruited him in his native Nevada, praised Jaden's changeup: "It is as good as I've seen. That's his out pitch."

Scouts also noticed Jaden's power at bat.

“He is a freaky strong kid,” commented a Major League Baseball (MLB) talent evaluator, “with raw power.”

The MLB Amateur Draft is scheduled for 10 and 11 June. The 2020 edition will be limited to five rounds and Jaden is coming off a serious injury that forced him to undergo Tommy John surgery in his right elbow.

Jaden doesn't feel he will be drafted and that he has plenty to prove on the field before that happens, therefore he has committed to play for the University of Southern California.

So far Jaden has managed to make his celebrity father proud.

When it comes to his parents, Jaden is grateful for having two tennis legends, who are there to offer advice, when needed. "One thing that’s really rubbed off on me is their work ethic,” he says. “It’s really a blessing to get taught that at such a young age. I truly appreciate how much it takes to be the best at something."
