The U-15 South American Softball Championship will be played in Manta, Ecuador; while the Women’s Softball South American Championship will be staged in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

International softball is set to return in South America with two regional events in October. From 4-9 October the South American U-15 Softball Championship will be played in Manta, Ecuador, while the Women’s Softball South American Championship will be staged in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The VI U-15 South American Softball Championship will be played in Ecuador from 4-9 October, with six participating nations: No. 4 Mexico (guest), No. 14 Brazil, No. 30 Peru, No. 36 Curazao, No. 40 Colombia, and No. 64 Ecuador. The event will be dedicated to Antonio "Tony" Morales, Colombian softball leader who passed away this year. Peru defeated Brazil in the final of the V U-15 South American Championship 2019, 3-1, and was crowned champion for the first time in history.

“We’re very happy to be back with the U-15 South American Championship, a category that has been boosting women’s softball in our region since Chincha 2015,” Marisa Matsuda, South American Softball Confederation President, told the WBSC.

Two weeks later, the Women’s Softball South American Championship will open in Buenos Aires. From 23-31 October, world No. 11 Venezuela, No. 14 Brazil, No. 30 Peru, No. 32 Argentina, No. 36 Curazao, No. 40 Colombia, and No. 64 Ecuador, No. 65 Chile and Argentina’s U-18 squad will compete again for the regional title.

“It’s also very important for the senior teams, since in 2022 they will compete in the qualifier for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games,” Matsuda noted.

South America will close the 2021 softball calendar on a high note, hosting the inaugural edition of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup. The event will be played in Lima, Peru, from 5-12 December.
