Spain's national softball league is live-streaming games as part of rebrand and popularity push

Eight of the 10 games were streamed through the new Spanish Softball League website.

The newly reformatted and rebranded Spanish Softball League (SSL) opened this past weekend with 10 games, 8 of them streamed through the new SSL website. The Viladecans, Rivas and Sant Boi each swept their two-game weekend series and sit atop the standings heading into week two.

This year, the Spanish Baseball Softball Federation (RFEBS, Real Federación Española de Béisbol y Sófbol) rebranded their top baseball and softball leagues, previously known as the 'Honour Division’ (Division de Honor).

The rebranding came together with a competition format change. Both leagues will introduce playoffs as part of a three-year development plan that aims to boost the visibility of baseball and softball in the European country.

A new website has been launched for the 2021 SSL season, including stats, standings, news and the streaming of the games.

The Viladecans are the most decorated team in Spanish softball history with 13 league titles. However, last year Rivas claimed their second Honour Division in as many years, and followed up by winning the Queen’s Cup.
