The Zurich-native will play for NJCAA’s SouthEastern Women’s Softball College.

Switch-hitter Jody Fischer has become the first Swiss native to receive a college scholarship to play softball in the US. The 21-year-old player was signed by the Blackhawks of Southeastern Community College of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Fischer represented Switzerland in the European Softball Championship 2019, where her team finished 16th place. This year, she contributed to the third consecutive Swiss title of the Zurich Barracudas.

Switzerland is currently the 33rd-ranked nation in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings, and will participate in next year’s European Championship, a qualifier for the next WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup.
