Tanzania is getting closer to its first Blind Baseball team. Giacomo Reina and Michele Bianchi, envoy coaches of the Italian Association Baseball for the Blind (AIBxC, a WBSC Associate Member), will hold a two-day clinic in Dar-es-Salaam involving blind boys and girls who want to become players.
Officials of the Tanzania Baseball and Softball Association (TaBSA) participated in the online introductory course in December 2020.
In February 2021, TaBSA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dar Es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) to introduce special education athletes to Baseball for the Blind.
The WBSC further supported Blind Baseball development in the country in April and May 2021. First, the WBSC Paralympic Commission held a seminar, then the WBSC donated to DUCE and TaBSA a starter kit, which included the basic tools to play baseball for the blind: a sound base, clappers and balls.
The clinic, which starts on 19 November, will include information on how to use the kit properly and involve TaBSA officials and DUCE physical education teachers.
