Tenerife Baseball Week: Spain wins series against Czech Republic

The guests won the first game, then the hosts came back with three consecutive wins.

Spain defeated the Czech Republic three games to one, in their four-game exhibition series played as part of Tenerife Baseball Week.

The Czech Republic won the first game, 11-7, in seven innings on Monday, 16 November. Veterans Martin Cervinka and Jakub Hejtmar batted in six runs. Marek Minarik went four innings and earned the win.

The day after, Spain came back to outscore the Czechs, 16-3 in seven innings. Left fielder Daniel Jimenez hit a pair of home runs and drove in six runs. Jose Martin earned the win pitching in relief of starter Francisco Gonzalez, who pitched three scoreless innings.

Jimenez took the stage again on Thursday, 19 November, as he hit a home run and batted in four runs to help Spain beat the Czech Republic, 7-4, in nine innings. Fernando Hernandez had a four-hit game. Eduardo Dominguez pitched 2 and 2/3 innings to earn the win.

Spain won the fourth and final game, 4-3, in seven innings on Friday, 20 November. The hosts overcame a 3-1 deficit thanks to a three-run home run by catcher Daniel Mondejar off reliever Lukas Hlouch in the sixth. The Czechs had taken the lead making the most of three walks by starter Ruben Gonzalez in the first. Jesus Da Silva pitched two scoreless innings and earned the win.
