Thailand holds first ever Baseball5 tournament

The Baseball Association of Thailand hosted the first ever Baseball5 tournament in the nation, the U-15 Baseball5 Lopburi Championship. A total of eight teams participated in the tournament, held in the city of Lopburi.

Wat Kai School Baseball Club claimed the title over 3rd Municipal School of Lopburi Baseball Club, woh ended as a runner up. Talechupsorn Baseball Club and Care Road School Baseball Club ended tied for third place.

Thailand coaches participated last May on a 2-day coaching seminar during the Asian Jr Women’s Softball Championship, acquiring basic knowledge about the new WBSC street discipline.

Being launched officially in March, Baseball5 is expanding quickly around the globe. Last month over 50 coaches and 140 children form the 3 countries took part in theoretical and practical Baseball5 sessions in Burundi, during the Friendship Games. And last week WBSC organised the first Jr. Baseball5 Challenge in Viera, during the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup.

The next big step of the new street discipline will be a presentation in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October, during the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018.
