Baseball European Championship: eight in play, five will advance to WBSC Qualifier

The winners of the first playoff round of the European Championship will advance to the WBSC Baseball Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier. The fifth team will come out of a mini playoff round amongst the four losers

Friday, 13 September, four of the five National Teams set to join South Africa in the WBSC Baseball Europe/Africa Qualifying Event for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020 will qualify out of the European Championship.

The 12-team European Championship completed group play and is heading to the quarter-finals.
Italy (5-0) is the only National Team to qualify undefeated. Spain (4-1) placed second in group B, followed by France (3-2) and Belgium (2-3).
The Netherlands and Israel finished on top of group A with a 4-1 record, but the Dutch will be the number 1 seed after winning (13-4) the head-to-head. Czech Republic (3-2) finished third and the hosts Germany qualified as number four. Germany shared a 2-3 record with Great Britain but prevailed thanks to a 1-0 win in the head-to-head. Boston Red Sox Minor Leaguer Marco Cardoso provided the only run of the game on a solo homer off former Major Leaguer Michael Roth.

4 pm Solingen Spain-Czech Republic (3)
7 pm Bonn Italy-Germany (4)

The fifth National Team to advance to the Qualifier will come out of a mini playoff round. The four losers will face each other and the winners will play the fifth-place game.

4 pm Solingen Loser 4-Loser 1

Sunday 15 September-fifth place game between the winners is scheduled at 11 am CEST in Bonn
