Puerto Rico's Tommy Velazquez re-elected as president of WBSC Softball Americas

Velázquez will lead the continental body for another term (2021-2025).

Puerto Rico's Tommy Velázquez was reelected this past Saturday as president of WBSC Softball Americas, the Pan American governing for the sport of softball. The term runs from 2021-2025. Velázquez was confirmed in his position in an election held in Panama, during the organization's 16th Ordinary Congress, where he obtained 64% of the vote.

"I am proud to have been re-elected to the highest softball office on our continent," said Velázquez, who also serves as WBSC Softball Division Chairman. "This election confirms the path the organization has been taking regarding development and modernization of our sport in the Americas that places us at the forefront of the softball world."

Velázquez will be joined on the WBSC Softball Americas Executive Committee by Jacinto Cipriota (ARG), as First Vice President; María Soto (VEN), as Second Vice President; Vanessa Endo (PER), as Secretary General; Dydia Toledo (MEX), as Treasurer; and the Aggregate Members Rolando Guerrero (MEX) for the Caribbean; Héctor Sazo (GUA) for Central America; Marisa Matsuda (PER) for South America and Godfrey Been (TCA) for the English Caribbean.

"I am happy for the ability and honesty of this working team. Its diversity not only ensures the representativeness of all the regions of our vast continent, but also ensures an unprecedented gender equality in our history, with a 45% female participation in our Board," said Velazquez.

The congress had a record participation, with the presence of 25 of the 30 affiliated members of the continent.
