Rodriguez throws a no-no, Cuba joins Japan, Chinese Taipei in super round

The last day of round-robin play in group A didn’t bring surprises. Cuba used a no-hit and no-walk game by Johan Rodriguez to beat the Czech Republic and join undefeated Japan and Chinese Taipei in the super round

The last day of round-robin play in group A did not bring surprises. Cuba joined Japan and Chinese Taipei in the super round and starting pitcher Johan Rodriguez celebrated pitching a perfect game.

Cuba scored in each of its first three at-bats against starter Matyas Hasal and reliever Filip Hedls and went on to beat the Czech Republic, 5-0. With the win, Cuba secured a spot in the super round.

Johan Rodriguez earned the win allowing no hit, no walk and striking out six. The only Czech runners reached on defensive errors.

Third baseman Alejandro Prieto and catcher Yeison Acosta had both a two-hit game.

Japan didn’t waste any time to set the tone against South Africa. The young Samurai scored ten runs in the bottom of the first against Jordan Pinto and Jaedon Jonathan and went on to beat South Africa 15-0.

Shortstop Ren Imai went 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Right fielder Kyonosuke Hayashi went 2 for 3, with a home run and three RBIs.

Japan gave one inning of work to four different pitchers. Hisato Shigematsu, Sakuma Aoki, Ren Imai and Shinsuke Kuwamoto didn’t allow a hit.

Chinese Taipei went at bat23 times in the first inning and scored 27 runs. The hosts added runs in the second and third inning and went on to beat Fiji 32-0 in the last game of round-robin play.
