U-15 Baseball League opens in Bhutan

Five schools in the area of the nation's capital Thimphu started the competition on 18 December.

The Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) held the opening day of the inaugural U-15 Bhutan Amateur Baseball League (BABL) on 18 December in the country's capital Thimphu.

Five schools will compete in a regular season, and the best will play for the title in the playoffs. The seven-inning games are scheduled during weekends.

The participating schools are Changangkha Middle Secondary School, Decheoncholing Higher Secondary School, Thimphu Primary School, Druk School, Taba Middle Secondary School.

"The league's objective is to develop and prepare young players aged 15 and under for the adult leagues, whilst promoting the health and social benefits to playing baseball and softball in Bhutan," stated BBSA through a press release.

Bhutan is a landlocked country in the Eastern Himalayas, located between China and India.

BBSA, founded in 2013 by current president Karma Dorji and Matthew DeSantis, a Bhutan resident originally from the US, is recognized by the Bhutan Olympic Committee. The WBSC Executive Board approved BBSA's membership during a meeting in July.
