The USA and Chinese Taipei made a huge step towards the medal games of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup after super round Day 2. Korea got a much-needed win against Japan after a ten-inning thriller.

Pete Crow-Armstrong proved once again the spark that can ignite the USA offence and the defending World Champions scored five runs in the first at-bat. The USA didn’t need to look back and went on to beat Canada, 10-0 in seven innings.

Starting pitcher Lin Yu Min gave no chance to Australia, Chinese Taipei got 15 hits and used an eight-run seventh at-bat to cut it short. Whang Shun Ho and Yueh Cheng Hua both had three hits and Ho Heng Yu batted in three runs and Chinese Taipei won 12-0.

Korea defeated Japan, 5-4, at the end of a real thriller. The young Samurai entered the bottom of the tenth leading 4-2 but Korea came back and won it on a sacrifice fly by shortstop Park Min. To add more thrill, Japan challenged the umpire’s call on the winning run. Korea’s players had to hold their celebration until the on-field replay-review confirmed the call.
