U-18 Softball World Cup: Mexico to meet Puerto Rico for bronze ahead of Chinese Taipei-USA finale

The medal round is set in Lima, Peru.

Puerto Rico walked-off Czech Republic, 4-3, on the last day of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup round robin and secured a spot in the Bronze Medal Game. Puerto Rico’s victory also clinched Mexico’s place in the final, leaving the European champions out of contention in fifth place.

In the second game of the day, USA faced Chinese Taipei in a preview of Sunday’s World Championship Final. The US team won the game, 9-2, in six innings and will play the World Cup final as home team. USA finished the round robin with perfect 7-0 record.

In the other two games of the day, the Netherlands defeated Colombia, 6-2, and claimed their first and only win of the tournament; while Mexico topped Peru, 6-0, to close the round robin. Peru finished the tournament in sixth place, Netherlands seventh and Colombia eighth.

Mexico defeated Peru, 6-0, in the last game of the day and closed the round robin with a positive 4-3 record.

Ana Rosas pitched a gem against host Peru, allowing only one hit in seven innings, striking out three. It was her first win of the tournament.


Netherlands vs Colombia - Photos and stats

Netherlands clinched their first win at the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup, via a 6-2 victory over Colombia, in both team’s last game in Lima. Both teams finished the round robin with a 1-7 record


USA vs Chinese Taipei - Photos and stats

USA defeated Chinese Taipei, 9-2, in six innings, and finished the round robin undefeated, with a 7-0 record. The win earned USA home team status in the Final.

Czech Republic vs Puerto Rico - Photos and stats

Kairi Rodriguez hit the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Czech Republic, 4-3, and qualify Puerto Rico for the Bronze Medal Game. The European champions took the lead twice in the game but couldn’t hold the lead.

Czech Republic ended with a 3-4 mark.
