U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup: placement round Day 2

This is the full report on the games played in the second day of the placement round: Netherlands-Botswana, Brazil-Italy, New Zealand-Czech Republic, South Africa-Ireland. Inside you will find links to the box scores

New Zealand leads the race for ninth place, while the Netherlands are in the best position for thirteenth place.
Here you find a complete report of what happened in the WBSC U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup during the games of placement round Day 2.

A two-run home run by Pallas Potter in the top of the eighth inning off reliever Anna Stenglova gave New Zealand a 4-2 win over the Czech Republic in the first extra-inning game of the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup. New Zealand may have made a key step towards the ninth place.

Potter, who went 3 for 4, batted in also the first run of the game in the top of the first.
The Czechs, after trailing for most of the night, tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. Shortstop Barbora Saviola doubled and then scored on a defensive error.

Czech starter Brooke Glassie earned the win allowing five hits in the complete eight-inning game.

Italy beat Brasil, 9-1 in five innings and recorded the second win of the tournament. The Azzurre overpowered Brazil’s starting pitcher Thais Suzawa with 11 hits.

Italy surrendered the lead in the first on a defensive error, then struck back with a two-run second at-bat on a couple of hits by third baseman Sara Cianfriglia, right fielder Fadwa Ben Karim and didn’t need to look back.

Alexia Lacatena went the distance, allowing only three hits and striking out four.

The Netherlands beat Botswana, 12-7, and earned the second win in the games for places 13-16.
An eight-run second at-bat gave the Dutch a comfortable lead against Boitshepo Arone and her reliever Wame Odirile, who did not get much support from their defence.
Wame Ramoruswana doubled off reliever Isanthe Rouwenhorst in the bottom of the fifth, capitalizing on a couple of defensive errors. Margot Van Eij came in and threw three perfect innings to secure the win.

Ireland beat South Africa, 10-0, in four innings to record the first win in the round.
Madison Leonard allowed two hits and two walks in a four-inning effort to earn the win.
The Irish line up didn’t waste any time to get to South Africa’s starter Nushka De Beer, scoring three in the first at-bat. Left fielder Eimear Cunningham highlighted the frame with a triple. Second baseman Maura Keary went 3 for 3.
