US Olympic Baseball Team opens warm-up series with win

The game against the US Collegiate National Team was shortened because of rain. The Olympic Team won 8-3. Two more warm-ups are scheduled for 19 and 20 July.

The United States Olympic baseball Team opened a three-game series against the US Collegiate National Team with an 8-3 win on Sunday, 18 July. The game, played at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina, was shorteded to seven innings because of rain.

The Olympic Team scored all their eight runs in the first couple of innings. Patrick Kivlehan and Eddy Alvarez batted in five runs on a pair of home runs, and Eric Filia contributed with a two-run single. Left-hander Scott Kazmir pitched five strong innings, striking out nine.

The other two warm-up games are scheduled on Monday, 19 July, at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina, and on Wednesday, 20 July, at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
