V WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup - Day 6: Cuba, Japan, Chinese Taipei win to start Super Round

Wednesday saw Japan defeat defending U-15 World Champions USA in Super Round action, while Cuba, the 2014 and 2015 U-15 World Champions topped Panama, and Chinese Taipei shut out Puerto Rico.

Cuba and Japan remain the lone undefeated teams in the V WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2022, after the first official day of Super Round action. Top-ranked Japan defeated previously unbeaten USA, 12-6, while Cuba topped Panama, 8-3, and Chinese Taipei shut out Puerto Rico, 9-0.

In Placement Round action, Czechia registered their first win of the tournament, a 4-0, shutout over fellow Europeans France.

Yao-Yun Chang pitched five solid innings for Chinese Taipei, in today’s 9-0 win over Puerto Rico in Hermosillo, Mexico. 

Japan recovered from an early deficit today at Sonora Stadium to top the defending U-15 World Cup champions USA, 12-6.

Cuba earned their second win of the Super Round with a come-from-behind victory over Panama, 8-3. The Cuban team recovered from a 3-1 deficit in the first two innings to overtake Panama and claim the win. The game was called after four innings due to heavy rain.

Panama 3-8 Cuba

The game has been called at the Hector Espino Stadium. Cuba earns its second win in the Super Round and remains undefeated in the tournament.

Bottom 4th - PAN 3-8 CUB: Cuba takes the lead with a five-run rally, highlighted by a two-run triple by Maikel Rodriguez.

Bottom 2nd - PAN 3-3 CUB: Panama adds one in the top of the second inning when Jhojan Downer scored on a grounder, but then in the bottom half Cuba scored twice to tie the game 3-3. Segian Perez does the damage with an RBI single and Dulieski Ferran a the sac fly.

Bottom 1st - PAN 2-1 CUB: Cuba is on the scoreboard taking advantage of a defensive error. Alejandro Prieto scored.

Top 1st - PAN 2-0 CUB: Juan Caballero and Jorge Pinilla hit RBI singles to give Panama the early lead in the game.

USA 6-12 Japan

Top 5th - USA 7-10 JPN: USA scores one after two defensive errors by the Japanese defense.

After a 50-minute rain delay, we're playing again at Sonora Stadium. After four innings, Japan leads 10-5.

Bottom 3rd - USA 5-10 JPN: Japan takes the lead with another big inning. There is now a five-run difference for the Asian squad.

Bottom 1st - USA 5-5 JPN: Japan responds with their own five-run rally, including a two-run double by Rusa Tsuji, and RBI singles by Kanta Kanemoto and Rui Yano.

Top 1st - USA 5-0 JPN: USA jumps ahead with a five-run rally, powered by a two-RBI single by Brady Ebel and an RBI triple by Alex Harrington.

Chinese Taipei 9-0 Puerto Rico

Top 6th - TPE 9-0 PUR: Chinese Taipei gets a nine-run lead off a grounder by Chun-Chih Fu.

Top 5th - TPE 8-0 PUR: Two more runs for Chinese Taipei, powered by an RBI single by Ting-Hsuan Ku and a run-scoring double by Sheng-Jie Tsai.

Top 3rd - TPE 6-0 PUR: Chinese Taipei adds one to the scoreboard with an RBI single by Ting-Hsuan Ku.

Top 1st - TPE 5-0 PUR: Chinese Taipei scores big in the top of the first.
