Wasps come from behind to beat Lions, advance to Taiwan Softball Series

The New Century Wasps were down two games to one in the TPWSL semifinal series. The Wasps will face the Eagles in the best-of-seven Taiwan Softball Series.

The New Century Wasps clinched their spot in the Taiwan Professional Women’s Softball League finals, beating the Lions 3-2 in the five-game semifinal series. The Lions jumped to a two-games-to-one lead in the series, but the Wasps got back-to-back wins to advance to the final, where they will face the regular season winners, the Eagles.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning in Game 4 on Saturday, Kaisey Carson ignited the New Century Wasps with a go-ahead grand slam off Kelly Barnhill. The Wasps held on to win, 5-4, with Carson earning the victory.

Game 5 of the series was a nail-biter as well. The Lions took a 2-0 advantage in the first inning but Carson again fuelled her team’s comeback with a solo dinger in the top of the second and a sac fly in the fifth inning, as the Wasps won, 4-3.

The TPWSL best-of-seven final series will open on Saturday, 7 November, with a doubleheader. Games three and four will be played on 8 November. If necessary, the series will continue with a doubleheader on 14 November, with the decisive game 7 slated for 15 November.

The TPWSL is overseen by the Chinese Taipei Softball Association.
